El Bordo, General Güemes, Salta
A historic farm with a future
Just twenty minutes from Jujuy airport and less than one hour away from the historic capital of Salta, this is one of the oldest estancias of the country. Its title deeds date back to 1609. Its main house of thick adobe walls was built on orders of the mother of General Güemes, who together with his gauchos was able to defend North Argentina during the war of independence.
With the application of advanced technology, production from its nearly 3000 hectares include organic sugarcane, beans, tobacco, and cattle. It also breeds the elegant, comfortable Argentine-Peruvian Stepping Horse and one can ride one of these through the woodlands until reaching the natural reserve of “yacarés” (alligator).
The Arias family, owners of the farm for eight generations conserve archeological remains found on the property, century old documents, furniture, carvings of the eighteenth century and culinary recipes with which they delight their guests.
